These are the Multi User Domains that I like to frequent. If you'd like to try them out, but you think you need some help, you can contact me. I'll be happy to give you a hand with getting started, whether you're new to MUDs altogther, or if you just need a bit of help figuring out the particular codebase of the MUD. If you don't need my help, go ahead and plunge right into whichever MUD strikes your fancy. They're extremely fun, and equally as addictive.
| Core 2650 | |

| Character: | McGravin |
| Story: | Core 2650, alternately known as CoreMUD, takes place on a backwater planet on the fringes of the civilized galaxy. You have been hired by The Company as a miner to work the drift mines deep below the surface of the planet. Outside of the sturdy domes that make up the C.I.T.Y. is a world of wasteland deserts and treacherous mountain peaks, not to mention a poisonous atmosphere, requiring that you wear an environmental suit. |
| Synopsis: | Mine for ore, work in the one of the completely player-operated shops, complete some of the company's assigned tasks (quests), fight in the PK arena, or just kill some of the critters that inhabit the sewer system. |
| F.Y.I.: | For a newbie, there are two main routes to have your questions answered:
|
| Star Conquest | |
|---|---|
| Website: | starconquest.thewolvesden.net |
| Connect: | starconquest.thewolvesden.net:1111 (Click here for telnet) |
| Character: | Mac McGravin |
| Story: | Quoth the title screen: "Star Conquest is a multiplayer role-playing game set in interstellar space, as well as on dozens of planets, space stations, and starships. Your goal is what you want it to be. There are many different ways to make a living. And you won't be alone; all your activities take place with your choice of three diverse unions as a backdrop. And when you finally work your way up to one of the greatest powers in interstellar space, a fourth alliance of certain humans and some alien species may begin trying to recruit you." |
| Synopsis: | You pilot a starship (which you have to buy, then pay off the loan). With your ship, you can salvage debris, make courier trips, trade between planets, blow things up, haul asteroids, and a whole lot of other thigns. Make enough money and pilot points (sorta like EXP), and you can eventually buy your own personal space station or planetary colony. |
| F.Y.I.: | Star Conquest offers NO dedicated Out Of Character channel. The nearest thing to an OOC channel is the OOC message board. Some of the admins don't mind you talking OOC on the channels once in a while, but others could get upset. I advise that you don't use channels for OOC at all. Also, rather than having "boards" or "terminals" as an object set in one of the rooms, each player is issued a message board reader. You can "use reader" to check the boards from any place within the game (within normal comm range). |
| AddictMUD | |
|---|---|
| Website: | www.addictmud.org |
| Connect: | game.addictmud.org:4000 (Click here for telnet) |
| Character: | Thrawn |
| Story: | I don't think AddictMUD has a "story", as much as it has a "culture". We're a crazy bunch. |
| Synopsis: | This is the only place I know of where the era of swords and shields meets the era of Mark X Plasma Pistols and ATMs. |
| F.Y.I.: | On the outset, AddictMUD might appear to be just another CircleMUD with a few new areas. This is dead wrong. We have tons of nifty things. Things so nifty, I can't adequately describe them in words (which is ironic, seeing as it is a MUD, after all). You'll just have to play the MUD to experience all the niftiness and wonderfulness. |
